Christmas cactus

Finally! I started this from a one inch cutting in my Master Gardener class almost two years ago. Almost gave up on it several times, but as they say, patience has it's rewards. Merry Christmas to me.

Thanksgiving

Baking pecan pies. The kids are on their way. We have so much to be thankful for.
Thank you, Lord.

Computer is sick, had to haul him in to be reloaded. Don't know what happened but it was probably my fault. That's why I call my desktop a HIM. Should be back soon, good as new. Will keep you informed from my little laptop.

Front Porch

Our front porch is all dressed up for Halloween. Love my goose, although I've been told he's really a loon. Ha!

Amber lights

I love, love, love my amber lights on my patio chandy. Really looks like fall. Had to add a few more crystals, but in my opinion, you can't have too many.

Great little table

Cute little table I got at Fredericksburg Trade Days
last month. Great size for my kitchen, but it had a bright yellow top. I found some fabric and made a little "cozy" for it. Perfect!

New paint

Been painting my master bath. It was gold before and  I always thought it looked too yellow. Now it's a caramel that looks richer. Although I have covered a lot of the walls up with stuff, I still can see the difference. It seems cozier now.

Rain

Woke up this morning to a real tropical storm coming straight for us. An honest to goodness tropical storm, in Fredericksburg, in central Texas, in the hill country. Who'd o' thunk it. Thought I'd left all those behind in Houston. Really needed the rain though and we're thankful for that. Not so much all the wind.

Tiny dancers

We put up a new feeder and they seem to like it. My little camera can't capture all of them at one time. There seems to be thousands at one time. A lot of fun to watch.

Hot Summer Project

Just a few pics of our new pergola. My HH [Hero Hubby] and I built this with our own 4 hands and a lot of blood, sweat and tears, literally. It was 97 to 100 degrees every day we worked on this. We kept saying "just one more day and we'll be done". Well, needless to say, it took more than one more day. But it was worth all the effort. Glad for the extra shade or any shade in this hot summer. We have both vowed to do no more projects after May next year. We will see. Now I have to hang all my plants and other goodies. That's the fun part. More to come.

Lazy summer days

Well, they're here. Those summer days that I always dread. So hot that you can't get motivated to do anything,  including new blog posts. It' hard just to get outside to water the garden. Staying in the AC as much as possible and praying for rain and some Fall.

Memorial Day

After working on several yard projects we are tired. The HH and I are taking a few days off to rest. These projects seem to take a bigger toll on both of us than they used to. Wonder why??  Well, we are kicking back at home this weekend to enjoy all our labors and be thankful for all God has given us. Most of all for the ones who have given their all for us in this country. We will never forget.

I'm still here

Yes, I'm still here. Got our plumbing problems solved, but are still getting the yard back to normal. Got to plant grass over the bald spots and repair the flower beds and get all the rocks back where they belong. So, I've been working outside a LOT. Can't complain too much though. Our weather has been nothing short of spectacular. Beautiful sunny 80 degree days and cool evenings. No wonder the wildflowers have lasted so long. I still have bluebonnets blooming!
More garden pics to come. Now out I go to do more garden stuff.

Really fun project

This is what we've been doing this week. Digging up the back yard to make sewer repairs. Yikes!! Well, it could always be worse. It could be 100 degrees or 30 degrees. Anyway, it's not a fun project at all.

Wildflowers

The wildflowers are truely beautiful this spring. Lady Bird Johnson must be smiling down from heaven this lovely day. These are in my front yard!! I am blessed!

Kitchen Springtime

These are the beautiful Iris blooms my sweet friend, Cindy brought me. Don't have any in my garden. Guess I should grow some. They remind me of orchids. Thanks so much, Cindy.

First Bluebonnets

Nothing means spring in Texas like bluebonnets. These are in my front garden. Last year was such a bad year for wildflowers because of the drought, but this spring promises to be really great. These are just my first blooms, I'v got more to come.

Monday, March 22, 2010

Was in the twilight zone for the last week. I didn't do any of my regular routine. Grandson, Trey was here for Spring Break all week, jury duty one day, then my daughter Holly and granddaughter Harley came for the weekend. Enjoyed every minute (except maybe the jury duty). Don't get to see them as often as I'd like so it was really a treat for us.

Sweet Little Shelf

My HH came through again with this little shelf. I never could find anything small enough to fit this small space next to my closet door. It's only 8" deep so I couldn't open the closet all the way without moving everything. I was going to find some fancy brackets, but I was cleaning out the garden shed and found these in a box I was collecting for my Yard Sale ( more about this later ). I had used these as plant hangers before. Just a little black spray paint and I found some old round wooden knobs to hot glue on and ... well, there you are. Now I have the perfect shelf for my little lamps.

Window Seat

This is my new window seat that my wonderful brother in law and my "HH" made for me. What a great pair of guys. If they were gals I would use the word creative, but since they wouldn't approve I'll just say they're pretty handy fellas. Just gave 'em my dimensions and and they went right to work. Great storage. If you live in an old house, you can use every spare inch. It's perfect!! Thanks guys!!

Snow!

Well, finally! After the whole state got snow this winter, we got some. It's really a treat when it snows here. We all take lots of pictures and generally act like 6 year olds. But it only lasts one day.

Waiting

Waiting for "Daddy" to come back from Houston. Rainy, cold day. Can't go out and play. Hurry Spring!!

H H Project

My HH (Hero Husband ) installed this in our laundry room. Pretty fancy. It was a not too pretty garage sale find. Just adding some crystals and a cord sleeve makes it great. Thanks HH!!

Newest project

This is my new chandelier from Lowe's. It has lots of crystals but is small enough to go by my front door. It's not wired directly into the ceiling. I just connected it to a long plug-in wire and made a sleeve ( to hide the ugly cord) and plugged it into the wall. And yes, I wired it myself. Easy. Easy.

Monday, February 8, 2010

I guess I must be more computer backward than I thought. Just when I really think I know what I'm doing, it takes me a week to post one photo. Oh well, just another learning experience. I'm sure there will be many more to come. Have patience.

Monday, February 1, 2010

Well, here we go. A new year (sort of ) and I am starting this new venture with high hopes and much enthusiasm. I hope to have nothing but very interesting and insightful things to say. We shall see.
